A recent report revealed that conservatives have staged a boycott of home goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond (BBB) after it cancelled MyPillow and its CEO Mike Lindell.
According to a Jan. 18 post by the Gateway Pundit, BBB initially dropped MyPillow products from its stores in January 2021. The retailer’s move became a cause for celebration among liberals, including the MeidasTouch political action committee (PAC) established by the three Meiselas brothers.
The PAC confronted BBB on Twitter, asking why the election integrity activist and entrepreneur was given both a wall display and why the retail chain stocked his products. It asked: “Do you support martial law and insurrection?” A later tweet by MeidasTouch confirmed that BBB “has now officially dropped MyPillow,” with the PAC thanking the store “for siding with democracy.”
The retailer explained that it dropped Lindell’s products from its stores because they weren’t selling enough. “As previously announced, we have been rationalizing our assortment to discontinue a number of under-performing items and brands. This includes the MyPillow product line,” a BBB spokesperson told Yahoo Finance in a statement.
Lindell insisted, however, that BBB ditching his products was political – citing, in particular, his ties to former President Donald Trump. He also alleged that “left-wing groups that attack with bots and trolls” were pressuring retailers to stop doing business with him. Yahoo Finance also mentioned that several businesses have cut ties with Trump himself – including Deutsche Bank, Shopify, Salesforce and Stripe.
“These businesses are scared because they think if they associate with Trump, they’re going to be attacked just like MyPillow is right now,” said Lindell. “They’re afraid. They’re very afraid for their own livelihood.”
Still, the MyPillow CEO reiterated that he will continue to stand by Trump regardless of any pressure it puts on his business. He also emphasized that the 2020 elections that put President Joe Biden in the White House “was the most corrupt election in the history of the world.”
The Gateway Pundit piece stated that conservatives responded after BBB dissociated itself from MyPillow: “Many boycotted BBB and bought directly from MyPillow. Now, BBB is closing stores – nearly 150 at last count.”
It also attached screenshots of tweets from several users explaining why they patronized MyPillow.
User @barbara_lampkin wrote: “I stopped shopping [at BBB] and other places when they screwed Lindell’s MyPillow Company because [he] was revealing the truth about the stolen election. Go woke, go broke.”
User @patriothippieca, meanwhile, said she hasn’t shopped at a BBB outlet since it discontinued carrying MyPillow. “I’ll take the inconvenience and rather shop direct,” she remarked, adding that she needed a second set of sheets.
“I used to like [BBB], but I haven’t set foot inside one of their stores since they stabbed MyPillow in the back. I never will either, unless they bring back MyPillow,” said user @YorakHu51501644.
While BBB’s dissociation with Lindell proved to be a golden opportunity for the entrepreneur and election integrity activist, it served as the beginning of the end for the home goods retailer.
Aside from announcing the closure of around 150 stores across the country, BBB is now speaking with potential buyers to keep it afloat in case it files for bankruptcy. According to a CNBC report, BBB “warned it may need to file for bankruptcy after its turnaround plans failed to substantially boost sales and repair its balance sheet. The company reported net losses that exceed $1.12 billion for the first nine months of the fiscal year.”
